“Nicki, WAIT!” he yelled as he ran after her. He caught the door to her hotel suit just as it was closing. “Don’t you think you need to help me understand this?”

She crossed the room to the large window, arms folded over her chest. He walked over to her & placed his hands gingerly on her hips. “Baby, talk to me. Help me out here.” She looked down.

“I don’t know how else to explain it to you.” she said walking away.

“How bout in a way that makes sense!” he exclaimed.

“I am but you’re not fucking LISTENING!” she screamed.

“No, I'm not, cuz its bullshit.”

“It’s not bullshit, this is my life!”

“So what you're saying is, you're gonna be unhappy because that’s what your MANAGEMENT suggested?” she groaned, aggravated.

“Are you really thinking about it though? Everyone inside & out of this industry is doubting me. No one thinks I can do this on my own. I if date you right now, that’s like proving them right! If I date you, no matter what I do, they're gonna think that I’m successful because of you. I can hear them now. DRAKE WRITES RAPS FOR NICKI MINAJ. Or some other dumb shit. I don’t want that.”

“So what! you know that’s not true.”

“But who CARES if that’s not true! That’s what they’ll say & that’s what everyone will know me as. Drake’s girlfriend. They won’t take me seriously & you know that. And besides that, I have to think about what they want.” She said as she looked down at the crown of fans that were waiting for her. A sea of posters, pink wigs & Barbie chains, all for her. Team Minaj. They were so much more than her fans. They were her family.

“You can’t let them run your life! I don’t wanna say fuck your fan but….i just don’t get how you let them run you.”

“These are the people that support me! The people that buy my music & my merchandise. Everything I am is because of them. I have to take their feelings into consideration because it isn’t just about me anymore. Lives are depending on me. On what I do!”

“you know that I get that but when it comes to your personal life…why?”

“Because these boys, these girls, these beautiful people that support me, they see me as more than just an artist & they're more than just my fans! Their opinions really matter to me. So if I have to sacrifice myself to make them happy, I'm gonna do it.” Drake turned away from her rubbing his temples.

“I just don’t understand how you could let them own you like that. It’s like you're letting them take all the fun out of it. It’s not even about the music anymore.”

“Because it’s not just about the music. I have to make this work. There is no other option for me. This is IT! I own real estate now. I can put my brother through college……….. I won’t go back to what I used to be. NEVER. And if you don’t understand that I'm sorry. I won’t jeopardize their happiness for you or anyone else.” He walked to her, turned her to face him & stroked her cheek.

“I don’t want this to be over.” He told her before kissing her passionately. He moved from her mouth to her chin, kissing along her jawbone, feeling the hot tears that fell there. She put her hands on his chest, pushing him away.

“I don’t either but….. I don’t know what else to do.” She said as she caressed his face. “God, why did I have to love you?” the way she spoke sounded so hurt & painful. He pulled her tight to his chest.

“I don’t wanna give you up, but I just can’t keep it a secret anymore. You're the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me & I want the world to know that.”

“I just can’t let you ruin everything that I've worked so hard for. I don’t know if I can handle it, if this doesn’t work out.”

“Well, let me just ask you this….in your life…at the end of the day…do you want to be loved or do you want to be respected?” They were quiet for a while, staring into each other’s eyes. He was searching, hoping she would change her mind, but she didn’t. She looked away.

“I'm sorry.” He sighed heavily before putting his hand under her chin, raising her head to kiss her 1 last time.

“I love you puppet, & I always will, but call me when you're ready for Geppetto to cut the strings.” He reluctantly let his hand fall from her face, turned around & left.
